A canvas is to an artist like fingernails are to… well, anyone! Of all the ways to express yourself, fingernails are some of the easiest and most unique ways to do it. There’s always the challenge of mastering painting with your non-dominant hand, but that’s all part of the experience.
Keep patterns simple or go completely psychedelic. It’s up to you. It’s a way to flaunt your personality loud and proud.
Here’s a fun design that looks great whether you’re at work or hanging out with friends.
Grab a newspaper and cut out 10 small squares (fingernail size) from the text. It doesn’t matter what the text says because it’ll be backwards on your nails when you are done. Set those aside for now.
Start with a base coat and then paint a few coats of a tan or gray color. After the polish is completely dry, dip your finger and one of the newspaper pieces in some water. Press the newspaper to your nail and hold it there. Be careful not to move it or the print will blur.
Peel the newspaper off and repeat the process with the rest of your nails. Use polish remover on a cotton swab to tidy up the skin around your nails. Finally, paint a top coat over the nails to keep the print from coming off.
Et voila! You’ve now got a chic design that looks like you went through a printing press!
Tip: Base coats
Tired of your polish chipping right away? Dislike the yellow stain removed polish leaves behind? If so, you might want to invest in a base coat. Base coats help prolong the life of your polish, give polish a smooth surface and, most importantly, protect your nails from polish stains and potentially harmful substances in the polish.
You can get a decent quality base for less than $5.
