10 uses for… Vinegar

1. Remove wallpaper
With equal parts of vinegar to water, use a sponge or a spray bottle and saturate surface. Let sit for several minutes, and then scrape away wallpaper easily.

2. Give old paintbrushes new life
Soak brushes in hot vinegar for 30 minutes, then wash in soapy water to remove old paint and gunk.

3. Remove mineral deposits from showerheads
Soak your showerhead in a re-sealable plastic bag with 1/2 cup of warm vinegar for one hour. Wipe clean.

4. Shine your silver
Soak silverware, pure silver bracelets, rings and other jewelry in a mixture of 1/2 cup white vinegar and 2 tablespoons baking soda for 2-3 hours. Rinse under cold water and dry with a soft cloth.

5. Remove sticky mess
Dab vinegar on stickers or decals stuck on glass, wood or plastic. Scrape off sticker and reapply vinegar to remove residue.

6. Freshen fabrics
Add a touch of vinegar to your laundry to diminish any foul odor. (Never mix with bleach!)

7. Unclog and deodorize drains
Use a funnel to pour in 1/2 cup baking soda followed by 1 cup vinegar. When foaming subsides, flush with hot water. Wait 5 minutes, then flush again with cold water.

8. Reduce stubborn ceramic tile stains
Use an old firm bristle toothbrush and vinegar to scrub away grout stains. (Avoid using vinegar on marble surfaces!)

9. Remove rust
Soak old, rusty tools and nuts in vinegar for a few days. Rinse with water and watch rust wash away.

10. Get rid of smoke odor
Remove smoky odor caused by burned food or cigarettes by setting out a shallow bowl 3/4ths full of white or cider vinegar.
