Deck the dining room!

By Karla Mikkelson

Holiday entertaining calls for a special touch. But don’t think it has to cost a bundle. The holidays are the perfect time to showcase the favorite things you already own. Dig out Grandma’s cake plate. Showcase your favorite antique heirloom. Think simple and find ways to make that same old dining room simply magical.

Cake Plate Centerpiece
Dust off that rarely used cake plate and try it as a centerpiece. Group your favorite candles, some coordinating Christmas balls and a bit of greenery, holly berries, ribbon or pine cones.

White Elegance
Take a few similar vases (we love the simplicity of white) and fill with evergreen sprigs. Add basic white candles and your instant centerpiece is simple but elegant.

Focal Point
Try an antique dresser as a dining room buffet. The drawers are great for silverware, plates and linens. If it doesn’t have a mirror, add one of your own over it, framed in a contrasting wood, or add a large painting above it to create a focal point.

Go Natural
Is your favorite plate made of bamboo or teak wood? Try overflowing it with natural fruits and nuts in warm tones. Add a few candles and you’re done!
