So you ask yourself, “What does it mean to be mayor of Alexandria in the spring and write an article with the theme, ‘It’s party time?’” I already hear you saying to yourself – the mayor isn’t much of a party person is she?
So I will tell you a thing or two both personally and on the public level about this mayor! Parties come in all shapes and sizes so don’t rule out that I have lots of fun and do lots of exciting events! First of all, I have quite a party going on in June – one of our daughters is getting married right here in Alexandria at Carlos Creek Winery! The dress has been bought, the colors chosen, the flowers decided upon and the invitations sent. Ron and I will host a brunch the next day with a gift opening. If you don’t think that’s party time and rejoicing – then, you haven’t hosted a wedding yet! Let me add – please keep me in your thoughts the beginning of June (I say this smiling!).
Along with being a mother, Ron and I are grandparents, AND I am fortunate enough to have both my parents alive to celebrate Mother’s Day and Father’s Day with them. My personal advice on that is to appreciate and love every day you have with your family. Someone recently told me family drives you nuts when they are here and when they are gone it is impossible to replace the void you feel. Enjoy your loved ones now!
Citywide: Our Council has approved special event permits for Ole Oppe Fest, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, the Hairball Concert, the Freedom Fighters ride, a Northwood’s Alexandria Beetles reunion baseball game and a special Juan Beringer Celebrity softball game. All outdoor events – with more to come for sure! The flower baskets will appear on the street soon and the beautiful colors will perk up Broadway in an instant! There will be a Party in the Street and Alexandria comes alive with festivities!
Now you noticed I did not even mention road construction. I left that out of the party equation. It is not the fun thing that happens every spring, but, it does signal that spring is here! So, sometimes all you need to do to feel like a party is just be grateful that we live in such a wonderful area that comes alive with such enthusiasm each spring. Put a smile on your face and you are ready to go!
